Camp Counselor

Penacook Community Center Summer Camp Program

The Penacook Community Center is looking for an energetic and creative person with good communication and problem solving skills to join our Summer Camp team and work with a group of children ages 6-12 years old from June 20 th through August 19 th.

Qualifications:   Must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma, current certification in Red Cross First Aid and CPR will be needed (can train). Will need a State Police criminal background check prior to first day of employment, and a physical exam within 2 years.

Must be organized and able to lead daily program activities for children including:

  • Active team challenges
  • N-PASS group science activities
  • PCC Jr. Planters gardening club
  • CATCH Kids Club physical fitness and nutrition program
  • Group sports games
  • Creative art projects
  • Field trips/water activities/swimming
  • Singing/dramatizations/dancing
  • Turning Junk into Funk – recycling & environmental awareness

Responsibilities:

*

Works under the general supervision of the Summer Camp Program Directors, be a team player, be fair, patient, and even-tempered.

*

Responsible for the supervision, safety and accident prevention of all camp participants and being a positive role model to campers. Be able to maintain the standards of behavior set by the program through positive reinforcement strategies.

*

Responsible for daily implementation of the day camp program.

*

Administers First Aid and/or CPR when necessary.

*

Responsible for the organization and maintenance of the camp facility, supplies and equipment. 

*

Counselors are required to meet with their campers during open house prior to the start of camp to welcome them and speak with their parents as to what is needed each day, based on the camp activities.

*

Counselors are required to take daily attendance, complete accident and incident reports when necessary, and inform their supervisor of any issues or concerns that may require immediate attention.

*

Responsible for carrying out departmental discipline procedures, insuring that class registration procedures are followed and that supplies and equipment are readily available.

*

Supervises Counselor in Training (CIT) participants, and fosters an environment whereby CIT's can learn the necessary skills to become caring and responsible Camp Counselors. 

*

May be required to lift items that weigh more than 25 lbs.

Work Hours: Must attend an in-service training and weekly staff meetings.  Will need to be available to work Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 5:30 pm for 9 weeks.  Hours are modified so as not to exceed 40 hours.
